Dinner with Word in Veg Ways

Warwick Folk Festival Rose review WIVWhen Anna Rose from the lovely light-hearted blog Word in Veg Ways came to dinner recently, it was the start of the Warwick Folk Festival, so the pub and everywhere around were literally in full swing.

Anna likes a little folk with her food and loved the dishes she and her guest dined on, too. Scotch egg Rose review WIVThey started with two veggie options, namely the veggie haggis Scotch egg, marinated courgette salad, gooseberry ketchup and the twice baked Quickes Cheddar soufflé, apple & walnut salad and Aspall’s Glaze.  Quiche Rose review WIVBoth tucked into the rich textured mock haggis, soft runny egg in the centre and the tangy gooseberry ketchup.  Anna’s soufflé also rose to the challenge, light and fluffy with a blast of sharp cheese and a nice contrast of walnuts and apple slices.

For mains, it was posh fish and chips teamed with a light green bean, fennel and tomato salad with crispy triple cooked chips and beer battered haddock for one, and Queen Anne’s artichoke tart, with chicory & frissée salad and lemon and caper dressing for the other. Artichoke tart Rose WIV reviewArtichokes are a wonderful ingredient which we love celebrating in season!

Dip Your Own StrawberriesFor afters, the pair dipped their own strawberries into thick chocolate and Chantilly cream, and shared a slice of warm lemon and polenta drizzle cake with refreshing elderflower sorbet.

The verdict?  Passionate and knowledgeable team; good veggie specials, choice for vegetarians (and the scope to adapt dishes too), frequently changing specials and regular events in a quaint, yet contemporary place to dine.

Thank you Anna for a lovely review!
